Mesenchymal stromal cells secrete a complex mixture of proteins and vesicles — the secretome — that can change how a nearby tumour cell behaves without any cell ever being transplanted. This work asked what the secretome of human amniotic mesenchymal stromal cells does to cancer cell lines.
What I did on it
Two years of in vitro cell culture and molecular biology in the Safari Lab, contributing to experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
The work produced two peer-reviewed publications: one on downregulation of Pinkbar/pAKT and MMP2/MMP9 expression in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells, and one on apoptosis and epithelial–mesenchymal transition in prostate cancer cells.
